Wool-Aid Spring Lottery (March 1-31, 2013)

Socks! Fund-raising! Fun! Let’s raise $$$ for our Wool-Aid shipping fund and have some fun at the same time! Who wants a pair of handknit socks created by one of our generous and tremendously talented Wool-Aid members on Ravelry?

Here are the rules:

1 :: The Wool-Aid Spring Lottery runs from March 1 through March 31.

2 :: The winner will receive the pair of handknit socks pictured and described below.

3 :: For every $5 you donate through this fund-raiser, you will be granted a “ticket” in the Wool-Aid Spring Lottery.

4 :: If using PayPal, follow these instructions:

  • Click on “Send Money”.
  • Use the e-mail address “lottery@wool-aid.org”.
  • Enter the total $$$ amount for your entry/entries.
  • Choose the “Personal” tab (instead of the default “Purchase” tab).
  • Click “Continue” to finalize the transaction.
  • Enter “ME PLEASE” in the notes area, and include either your Ravelry name or your first initial/last name.

5 :: If you prefer to enter by sending a check to Wool-Aid, please write “ME PLEASE” on the memo line.

6 :: For every $5 donated to this fund-raiser, post in the Spring Lottery thread in the Ravelry Wool-Aid group with the words “ME PLEASE”. The post number will be your lottery ticket number. (Example: If you donate $20 to this fund-raiser, post “ME PLEASE” in 4 separate posts, so you’ll have 4 separate lottery ticket numbers, one for each $5 donation.) If you are not on Ravelry, your first initial/last name will be posted for you to create lottery ticket numbers.

7 :: After the Wool-Aid Spring Lottery closes on March 31, the lottery ticket numbers will be run through a Random Number Generator to pick a winner. The winner will be announced in the Spring Lottery thread and in a Wool-Aid News & Updates e-mail.

Here’s the lovely prize:

Report on Shipments to Afghanistan (distributed January 2013)

Wool-Aid is working with the Lamia Afghan Foundation to help Afghan children living in orphanages and refugee camps in Kabul, Afghanistan. The New York Times reports that already this winter a child in a Kabul refugee camp has died from the cold. In anticipation of the harsh winter in Kabul, Wool-Aid built an inventory of warm woolen clothing and blankets, and in October, we shipped an additional 1310 items to the Lamia Afghan Foundation: 579 pounds of aid, much of it in infant and toddler sizes. Our mission is to help keep children warm, but in this situation, it may help keep children alive.

The 2000+ hats, pairs of socks, sweaters, vests, pairs of mittens, and blankets sent by Wool-Aid in 2012 to warm the children of Afghanistan are now being distributed in Kabul to children living in orphanages and refugee camps.
